This Was Never About Travel

People often assume that because I spend so much time in Tanzania, this story is about travel. It isn't.

Travel was simply the doorway.

When I first went to Tanzania, I wasn’t looking for a new life. I certainly wasn’t planning to build a business there. I just knew something kept pulling me back.

Over time, that country became more than a destination. It became part of my everyday life.

Not because I saw the most wildlife or visited the most beautiful places.

Because I stayed.

Long enough to stop looking through the eyes of a visitor.

Long enough to experience the ordinary.

The conversations that weren’t planned.

The friendships that couldn’t be booked.

The frustrations that every resident understands.

The laughter that doesn’t need translation.

The beauty that exists even when life is difficult.

More than travel

Those experiences slowly became Boho Afrika.

People knew it as a travel company, but for me it was always something much larger.

It was about bringing people closer—not only to Tanzania, but to a different way of experiencing the world. Slower. More curious. More human.

Life is not linear

Then life changed.

Plans unraveled.

Projects ended.

Some dreams had to be rebuilt from the ground up.

Looking back, I don’t see those moments as detours. I see them as invitations to ask a question I had avoided for years.

Who am I?

If I wasn’t running a travel business…

Who was I?

The answer surprised me.

I wasn’t only someone who loved travel.

I was someone who paid attention.

To people.

To culture.

To creativity.

To the quiet moments that most of us walk past.

To the stories hidden inside everyday life.

That’s what Loulou Afrika is.

Not a replacement for Boho Afrika.

An expansion of everything it was quietly becoming.

Here, you’ll still find Tanzania.

You’ll also find Canada.

You’ll find fashion, music, dance, handmade work, community projects, conversations, ideas, failures, beauty, questions, and the unexpected connections between them.

Because life doesn’t fit neatly into categories.

Neither do I.

I don’t want to write only about travel.

Or only about art.

Or only about Africa.

I want to write about a life lived between places, between cultures, between certainty and curiosity.

This is where all of those paths finally meet.

Welcome to Loulou Afrika.
